La Boqueria market tour

You can’t leave Barcelona without paying a visit to La Boqueria. Although the current market was inaugurated in 1840 under the name of Mercat de Sant Josep, its origins date back to the Middle Ages. In the 13th century, merchants and farmers used to set up stalls to sell their products to travellers entering or leaving the city.
La Boqueria is a veritable showcase of the culinary culture of Catalonia. You’ll find everything from locally sourced fresh produce to exotic imported products in the market. What’s more, there’s a wonderful array of bars and restaurants found inside the market itself and around it where you can sample tapas and dishes made with the ingredients sold in the market itself.
